Blog Week 1

At the end of last semester two my friends and I decided to get in one of the studios and record a cover that we arranged.  I recorded/produced/mixed the track and played keys as well.  I've been getting more into the recording/production world recently and I was really happy with how this project turned out.

This live performance by Fkj definitely fits in with something I would like to create in this class.  He uses Ableton Live to execute slick transitions, looping, triggering, processing, etc. that all add to the artistic flow of his presentation.  The other reason I resonated with this performance was how aesthetically pleasing it was to me.  He's in the middle of the room surrounded by an audience all wearing glowing blue headphones, and performing in front of a massive, incredibly beautiful painting.  The artistic thought that went into the setup for this performance to me makes it something more than just a concert, which is something I'd like to attain with my group this semester.

  1. My roommate and I really jammed to your cover, I love the arrangement and I think the mix is well done! As for your second video, I enjoy the balance between the auditory art and visual spectrum. I feel as though the painting was part of the performance in a way.

  2. This FKJ set slaps!! Also, just a gorgeous setting. Incredible how much people are achieving solo in their live sets. I like the cover as well- I think the snare on the kit is especially tight and the shaker track is crissspy.

  3. That second video really illustrates how powerful setting and visuals can be when listening to music! Seeing that space really puts a whole different spin on that set. So cool!
